Primary Source Material

Primary sources can be a variety of materials in different mediums. The key to identifying primary source materials is determining if this source originatesd or was created during the time under study. Primary sources were present during the event or time period and offer a first-hand perspective on the historical event or time period under study. Examples of primary source material include:

Internet Ancient History Sourcebook
The Internet Ancient History Sourcebook is a companion collection to the Internet Medieval Sourcebook. It contains links to relevant primary source material from this time period including visual and aural material for educational use.
MET | Greek and Roman Art
The MET Museum's collection of Greek and Roman art comprises over 17,000 works. Images and details of many of these works are accessible online by clicking on the "View all artworks within..." link at the bottom of the page.

ORBIS
ORBIS: The Stanford Geospatial Network Model of the Roman World reconstructs the time cost and financial expense associated with a wide range of different types of travel in antiquity. It contains 632 sites, many of which are urban settings.
