Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography is a bibliography with a paragraph of notes after each source summarizing key points, relevancy, and usefulness. It is often used as a supplement to a research presentation or an early assignment in a longer research project.

Using Zotero to Create an Annotated Bibliography

Did you know that you can automatically format annotated bibliographies in Zotero?

  1. Use Zotero Connector and Zotero Browser App to save and organize sources.
  2. Select Edit > Settings.
  3. Under Cite, select "Get Additional Styles." Search for "American Psychological Association 7th edition (with abstract)" or "Chicago Manual of Style 18th edition (notes and annotated bibliography with abstract)."
  4. In the Zotero Browser App, find the "Abstract" section for each source and add your annotation. Screenshot of Zotero, with an annotated note replacing the abstract section.

  7. Open up your Word Processor and paste. Fix any formatting errors. Screenshot of pasted annotated bibliography
