News: Around Jenks

What are those books on top of the Reference shelves?

You may have noticed if you've been studying in the Reference Room in Jenks recently that there are now 3 categories of reference books available for checkout: 1) Career Resources, 2) Travel Guides, and 3) Writing Resources. These books are part of a new "Career" section that will allow you to checkout needed material for resume writing, grad test prep, job seeking, and more. They'll be shelved temporarily on top of the Ref shelves while we wait for new shelving to arrive. This new collection, while made up of many resources Jenks has had for a while, is made possible by our new neighbor the Career & Connections Institute (CCI). We're so excited for the opportunity to share resources and be a source of information for the CCI as they council students on career, internships, and more. Stay tuned for the new shelving and please checkout the material!

Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) Display

Do not miss the opportunity to learn about the man who put the A. J. in Gordon. The Jenks lobby is presently the venue for an exhibit on Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) with rare works from the library’s special collections. Adoniram Judson Gordon’s namesake was among the first Americans to serve in overseas missions. His approach to ministry known as “indigenous agency” set the standard for the hundreds of missionaries who followed in his footsteps throughout the globe. The exhibit includes works from the three successive Mrs. Judsons, who were accomplished writers and translators in their own right. Also featured are leaves from the 1685 John Eliot “Indian” Bible as well as Jonathan Edward’s first edition of The Life of David Brainerd (1749). Both Eliot and Brainerd were domestic precursors who modeled the ethos of “radical disinterested benevolence” which came to characterize the 19th-century missionary ideal.

New DVDs!

We're pleased to announce the addition of over 2,800 DVDs to our collection. These DVDs, temporarily housed here from Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, add to Jenk's existing 3,000 DVDs. Although they are shelved separately for Jenk's collection, students can checkout them out for one week as usual.

Book Displays

Gordon College Commission for students and graduates is to stretch the mind, deepen the faith, and elevate the contribution. This book display reminds students of this Commission by offering resources that help students explore calling and vocation, Christian life on a college campus, and what it means to make their faith their own.

Living the Christian life is an important part our shared experience.  When we live in community with one and other we are called to support and encourage those around us as we journey on our walks with God.  The Christian Life book display showcases new books added to our collection that offer wisdom into what it means to live the Christian life.

The Christian life book display is housed in the lobby of Jenks on the card catalog as you turn up the stairs to the 4th floor.
