Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) Display

Do not miss the opportunity to learn about the man who put the A. J. in Gordon. The Jenks lobby is presently the venue for an exhibit on Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) with rare works from the library’s special collections. Adoniram Judson Gordon’s namesake was among the first Americans to serve in overseas missions. His approach to ministry known as “indigenous agency” set the standard for the hundreds of missionaries who followed in his footsteps throughout the globe. The exhibit includes works from the three successive Mrs. Judsons, who were accomplished writers and translators in their own right. Also featured are leaves from the 1685 John Eliot “Indian” Bible as well as Jonathan Edward’s first edition of The Life of David Brainerd (1749). Both Eliot and Brainerd were domestic precursors who modeled the ethos of “radical disinterested benevolence” which came to characterize the 19th-century missionary ideal.

Book Displays

In honor of N.T. Wright's upcoming visit to Gordon College, this month's book display features the Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity's extensive publications, including his two most recently published books Paul: A Biography and The Day the Revolution Began: Reconsidering the Meaning of Jesus's Crucifixion. N.T. Wright will be the keynote speaker at this year's Symposium.

Living the Christian life is an important part our shared experience.  When we live in community with one and other we are called to support and encourage those around us as we journey on our walks with God.  The Christian Life book display showcases new books added to our collection that offer wisdom into what it means to live the Christian life.

The Christian life book display is housed in the lobby of Jenks on the card catalog as you turn up the stairs to the 4th floor.
