Course Description

HIS 216 surveys Roman political and cultural history from earliest Latin settlements through Etruscan and Republican periods to Roman Empire. Emphasizes origins of modern Western culture; multicultural, unified Mediterranean setting in which Christian Church emerged. Various readings from original sources.
