Tips for Getting Started

POPULAR SOURCE MAGAZINES & NEWSPAPERS
Articles published in popular source magazines such as Business Week, The Economist, and Forbes and newspapers such as The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal are great places to start your research. These articles are written for a general audience and will point towards many important economic trends experienced by companies and industries. Start here to get an idea of the current trends around your company, product, or industry of interest. The following popular source magazines are available in the Periodicals section of the library: 

DEVELOPING KEYWORDS
When searching in library databases such as Business Source Premier, usually 2-3 keywords are a good place to begin for your initial search. Use the information you are reading about in the popular source articles to develop potential keywords that will help you identify scholarly articles about application of economic theory and trends as it relates to your topic. Citing Sources

When working with and using information of any kind you must always cite your sources. Use the library's citation guide for help getting started with citing sources in the three major citation formats: MLA, ALA, and CMS.  Additionally, the OWL Purdue Writing Lab website contains useful information on citing sources.
